Support for full automation or semi-automatic integration of skids : The main control panel is used to monitor the train boards. It consists of an Allen Bradley PLC with 2 CPUs. The first CPU is used for redundancy, meaning that the operation of the system is not interrupted if a single CPU fails. In addition, the main control panel contains a UPS battery-powered backup to ensure that the system can be properly shut down in the event of a power failure. The main control panel also includes an HMI programmer that is customized to display key control panel functions including display values, faults and machine status.

PLC components :

  • PLCs have a basic structure similar to that of a computer.

  • CPU central unit: central unit that interprets all programmed instructions.

  • Power supply unit: component that supplies electrical power to the CPU and the other elements of the PLC.

  • Memory unit: available space on the processor to store all the information required to perform the control task.

  • Inputs and outputs: analogue and digital modules that ensure the successful execution of the PLC. The inputs process the information from the higher-level software program, while the outputs provide the physical connection between the computer and the robot that executes the movements.

  • Programming unit: hardware and software unit that allows the PLC to interpret the instructions received from another program in one or another programming language.

Application and benefits :  The redundancy of this specific control panel is directly related to its greatest benefit. Due to the security of everything that could and would fail in this model, there is not a single failure. For instance, the PLC receives a signal from two power supplies in this control panel. There is a backup signal to keep the product’s integrity if one of these signals malfunctions. The machine automatically sends a signal to the PLC, which is shown on the HMI programmer, when something has failed. As a result, in the event of a component failure, there is little to no downtime. Another significant advantage of this control panel is that the train panels can be placed close to the machinery they are controlling, while the main panel can stay in an office or control room. Techs can track data and faults from a single location because the main control panel keeps an eye on the performance of the train panels.
